This is a one -day, intensive knowledge and skills-based training course designed for practitioners and clinicians working with complex multi-type maltreatment/poly-victimisation i.e. with children who have experienced more than one type of abuse or neglect, which is now seen to be the rule rather than the exception; neglected children may be vulnerable to sexual exploitation; sexually abused children in the family context may be exposed to domestic violence and physical abuse; emotionally abused children may be vulnerable to physical abuse and neglect.
Negative prolonged criticism of a child in addition to harsh parenting has a profound impact on a child's sense of self. When these observations are linked to additional Adverse Childhood Experiences, (ACEs) eg parental loss, separations, and exposure to violence, mental health and substance abuse, the impact on the child's health and development is cumulative.
There is a linear relationship between Complex Multi-part Maltreatment and the child's Emotional and Disruptive Responses, with high levels of Distress and Traumatic Symptoms.
These responses overlap and can be characterised as Developmental Trauma.
Participants will receive 3 Guides (value £75) as part of this workshop.
The training is open to all practitioners and clinicians who work with complex multi-type maltreatment in health, social care, youth justice and education settings. This includes practitioners working with children living at home with their families and those working with children placed in alternative care as a result of experiencing multiple types of maltreatment.
Delegate Fees - Members Rate £130, Non-Members £195, Joining Members £215 and Students £60

We are now producing the Directory exclusively in an easy to use PDF format. The DABS National Resource Directory lists over 650 organisations across the UK and Ireland .These are arranged according to location and services offered. National organisations are also represented. There are services that work with adults, children, males, females, perpetrators and also those that provide accommodation and helpline services.
DABS has composed a list of around 450 titles categorized according to who they are aimed at and the subject matter they explore.
There are books for survivors and victims of abuse and sexual violence and who may be experiencing additional issues as a result. Other books are aimed at professionals working in this field.
