PRE-TRIAL THERAPY WORKSHOP - WORKING WITH SURVIVORS OF RAPE AND CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE

Date: Jun 28, 2017 00:00:00 to 23:59

In the past many victims-survivors going through the criminal justice system were denied therapy pending the outcome of a criminal trial for fear that their evidence could be tainted and the prosecution lost. This fear conflicted with the need to ensure that victims-survivors are able to receive immediate and effective treatment to assist their recovery.

The report 'Speaking Up For Justice', produced by an inter-departmental working group on the treatment of vulnerable or intimidated witnesses, said that vulnerable or intimidated witnesses should not be denied the emotional support and counselling they may need both before and after the trial. This workshop has been established to highlight the legal principles of pre-trial therapy and to raise awareness amongst workers in order that they can safely provide this vital support in a way that will not compromise their professional integrity or their client's case when giving evidence.

Cost: £80 to include a buffet lunch
